Free Electron Lasers (FELs) are a new coherent optical source using
an electron beam in a magnetic field as a gain medium. By virtue of their simple
gain medium, FELs have an unique advantage: the broad wavelength tunability.
The FEL system consists of an electron accelerator, an undulator in which
the electrons emit the synchrotron radiation, and an optical resonator.
